Grandmother's Choice

A BUTTON
Grandmother's Choice:  Votes for Women
New Block of the Week by Barbara Brachman
Starts September 1st
Barbara posted fabric yardage and suggestions this morning on the new blog she set up for this project.
Dustin set up a flickr page for posting pics of blocks and progress
Here are links:  Grandmother's Choice for the blog and the flickr page set up for this project.
Many of the same quilters that did Barbara's Civil War BOW are participating plus lots of new faces :0)
Come join the fun!  Barbara always includes bits of history with each block. This project will be about the women's suffrage movement here in the States as well as around the world in gaining the right for women to vote.
I believe Becky will be making the block samples on the blog again.
New blocks are posted on Saturday... its the Saturday Morning Post  :0)

Quilting for Beckie

My Friend Beckie made this gorgeous quilt. I don't have any good way to take a picture of the entire quilt to do it the justice it deserves.

Love the border print, the peacock center panel and the gorgeous peacock print for the backing. Well made!

Woven Rail Fence revisited

Woven Rail Fence quilt sample for my class. Finished the blocks this evening. Six inch blocks are set 8 x 8. Borders will be added. Will be about 60 x 60 finished. Definitely an eclectic mix including a Christmas fabric!
A simple modified rail fence, the challenge for this class is fabric selection, value and placement. Click website for more details if you are in the Chico area and interested in taking this class. Also covered are basic quilting skills such as rotary cutting, stitching a 1/4 inch seam, strip piecing, pressing, adding borders and we end practicing some FMQ. There are a few openings. Thanks!

Check out the Owl quilt made by Theresa. In cool grey and blues on a white background. I did the back ground quilting and Theresa appliqued/quilted the owl onto the quilt after it was quilted. You can see it at HoneyRun Quilters. Very clever and she is working on another with big flowers! It's nice to get to practice longarm quilting on these sample quilts for HRQ!
Thanks for stopping by :0) Happy Quilting

Woven Rail Fence and BOM

Color Me Happy BOM at Cathy's/Honey Run Quilters. We meet the first Thursday of each month at Cathy's/HoneyRun Quilters in Chico, CA. Click here for the calendar/website for more info. Also listed is the newest class starting this week, August 9th... a modified rail fence...
These are the fabrics I have chosen and the beginning of my strip sets. Its an odd mix of fabrics including some 19th century repros, some batiks and a really cute Christmas print (the lightest fabric) that I found at HoneyRun.
Strip sets started for Woven Rail Fence
It's been awhile since I started a new quilt and I have to say it feels really good!!! Getting UFOs finished is great but it's not as inspiring as starting a new project. :0) Not that I am actually getting UFOs finished lately. Zero for the month of July. I'm OK with it, I read an article in July's Quilters Newsletter called Make Peace with Your UFOs by Jen Daly. "It's good to have goals but better to enjoy the journey."

Quilts and blogging

My apologies for not keeping up with blogging. Some new things going on right now. Some good, some not so much. Spending allot of time with Mom. My classes at Cathy's/Honeyrun Quilter plus a few other non quilting duties. It all adds up to my not working on any of my quilting, UFOs or doing much blogging. Add in the HOT weather... well you get the picture. Hope everyone is having a good summer. Lots of quilters are up in Oregon, enjoying Sisters. Wish I was there! Will be nice to see pictures and hear about new quilts. Happy Quilting!
