Two for Cindy ~ SIC & Buster's quilt

A Single Irish Chain made by Cindy G
using blocks she won at our guild's BOM program

Fabrics are from the Downton Abby collection.
Quilted with an e2e set up with the repeat in each block.

Another good example of a custom e2e

Quilted with Quilter's Dream Wool batting and Omni thread from Superior.
Design is Adora by One Song Needle Arts
The print was pretty busy so I choose a thread color that would show up
nicely on the backing

In this case, the design also worked well as it carried out into the outer borders.
An elegant feather and pearl design to complement the fabrics
with a little whimsy with a hint of a face in the design.

Last year Cindy and I both lost a furry family member.
Cindy was working on the following quilt during a Linda Ballard class/retreat
when Cindy received news that her dog, Buster passed
so Cindy named this quilt Buster Brown's Day on the Green

One of the prints had text that all ends with 'ful'
One being Playful which described Buster
and the reason for the playful quilting design

Not a design I offer often as the density is pretty high
however, decided it fit since Buster was a star in Cindy's life :0)
Lonestar by Kim Diamond
Thread is one of the new variegated threads from Superior ~ Omni V

Cindy pieced the backing with some of the same fabrics from the top
to complete this fun quilt. Thank you Cindy!

Enjoy your Sunday

Saturday Morning Post Buzz

What was on my frame this week? Flowers and Bees :0)
Baskets of wool flowers with buttons

This Prim wall hanging for Tess
Wool applique with button hole stitches
in Pearl Cottons and wonderful colors!
Quilted with two layers of batting... a base of cotton
and a layer of wool on top to add that trapunto effect.
It really made the wool pop!!! Love the dimension.

Custom quilted McTavishing style
Black Omni on a dark brown wool background.
'Carefully' outlining the applique with lots of cute buttons :0)

I had fun echoing around this block's design

A little embroidery added by Tess

I enjoyed my time adding the McTavishing fill
behind Tess' applique and as a fill for the borders.

Also finished this week is a third quilt for Cindy
This one has an e2e with a floral border/corner design

X Factor was a challenge quilt that Cindy made her own by turning the X into a diamond :0)

Quilting design is an e2e ~ Summer Buzz
which worked with all the Bee fabrics. Great colors
bright and cheery fabrics!

Quilted with a yellow Omni with Warm & Natural batting
with lots more bees on the back

Thank you Tess and Cindy!
Good friends and members of our guild
Annie's Star Quilt Guild in Chico CA

This was one more (hopefully the last) warm week in Chico with triple digits this week. Without air conditioning in my studio, makes for some early starts and uncomfortable days. One more in the works, a wedding quilt for Peggy.
Enjoy your weekend

Five in Five

Five quilts quilted this week!
First up is a quilt Betty D made in a guild workshop
Wonderful paisley batik quilted with a Paisley design
with a Rainbow variegated Fantastico thread
The black fabric are strips folded and pieced into cut blocks
A challenge for many longarm machines but the Innova did just fine :0)

Same applied to the set in folded fabric Cindy G added to this quilt
The stripe with stars fabric is the folded flange set into the inner border
This is a quilt Cindy made for the Wounded Warrior project posted on Facebook
Also made in a guild workshop this month
Quilted with Star Spangled Banner e2e with a Red thread
matching the red backing

This is another quilt made by Betty D
Quilted with Raindrops
that played with the water drops in these cute duck prints
and check out the yellow duck backing :0) ...

A wedding gift quilt made by Alice C
Hawaiian prints for a couple that love Hawaii
Quilted with an e2e of Hibiscus Flowers
by Sweet Dreams Studio

The fifth quilt finished up this week is completely different
This is a vintage quilt made with 1930's prints
Real ones, not repros.
I consider myself honored to see and work with a few vintage quilt tops. As much as I would love to see all hand pieced quilt tops hand quilted, it's not always affordable and maybe not every old quilt top should be rescued. This top was not in the best shape with many of the blocks falling apart that had been repaired by machine. Parts of the quilt were faded and the piecing was very puckered. Linda D brought this quilt in to be quilted. Rescued from a neighbor whose wife had passed away, Linda and I decided to use a wool batting for two reasons. It's a natural product and it would help fill in the puckered areas of the piecing.

When Linda came in to pick up this quilt she brought me another top she finished. I can't wait to quilt it! Modern, we already settled on a great design from Digi-tech. Really nice quilt, very similar to Kelly's style. Love it! and so did Kelly!

Rose, a customer brought an old quilt into my studio this afternoon. Made by a family member it had red and white nine patches alternating with white squares and it had a pink border and cornerstones. It was hand quilted with a cotton batting. The backing was made from some sort of feed bag or flour sack fabric. Well worn and loved, it was really special to see an old red and white quilt. (didn't think to take pix :0( it was a long day)

Thank you Betty, Linda, Cindy and Alice!

My quilting time is donated for as many Community Service quilts for the guild as I am able as well as Quilts of Honor and the quilt above that Cindy made will be donated to the Wounded Warriors project.

This is a Community Service quilt for Annie's Star Quilt Guild
Pieced by a guild member, now quilted and will go to another member for binding
 Quilted with Feathered Leaf e2e
 Wonderful backing!

The Houses Quilt was submitted to KIXE for their auction
Link with pic on ASQG website

One more, also quilted for the guild is a small quilt
made in like fabrics as our Opportunity Quilt
Brandie organized this project, purchased the fabrics and worked with volunteers to piece and applique the blocks. This little guy will be given to the person who sells the most Opportunity Quilt tickets. Quilted on the Innova as close to the same quilting done on the big quilt, I made one change and used a wool batting along with a layer of cotton to add loft.
Brandie did allot of the applique, love her fussy cutting!
The quilt is back in her hands for binding and will be presented to the guild soon :0)

Even the little corner blocks were quilted as the big quilt
pictured here...

Happy I was able to make good progress
Today is also the one year anniversary for Helena and I
The day my Innova arrived and was set up in my studio
It doesn't feel like a year, but it also feels like I've always quilted on this machine.

Enjoy your weekend

First quilting finished for 2015

First quilt in 2015 is quilted for Leslie
A beauty! 15 inch blocks set on point. Wonderful fabrics!
A paisley print is the medium with a dark silk cornerstone in the sashing.
The background fabric is all scrappy, love it!
Even the inner border is all scrappy pieces of background fabrics!
Borders, corners, 2 triangles and the blocks are a set design by
Apricot Moon called Charlotte.
finished with SID borders and 1/4 inch straight stitch in the sashing
More contemporary than my usual feather motifs.
It worked well with Leslie's fabric choices.

Thank you Leslie!

Two more for Cindy for her total of seven
This is a quilt made by Cindy with a Linda Ballard block design
Quilted with an e2e ~ Starburst using a Signature cotton in the color Wheat
Great fabrics and colors, set on point blocks! Good job Cindy!!!

and a quilt Cindy and Tess are known for using
The 10 minute quilt pattern...
Completely made of squares with one folded into the seams
and pressed down for folded edges
to form the center square on point
Definitely a challenge to quilt down the free floating folded edges!
Not something I could do on my previous SOB (some other brand) longarm
However, on my Innova... No problem!
Quilted with a Geometric e2e
and the bright and cheery backing Cindy chose for this quilt. Perfect!
Thank you Cindy :0)

And to wrap up the week, a quilt for Linda E
A baby quilt made with flannels...
for a baby boy. We thought the Friendship Stars and Pinwheels
could be propellers
so it is quilted with the Airplane e2e
because it needed those propellers!
Wonderful piecing! Thank you Linda :0)

Have a great weekend
