Saturday Morning Post ~ pix from Ramblin' Rows

Working on two more quilts for our upcoming quilt show in Chico, CA. On my frame is Amaretto Cottage, not quite halfway. I may add a pic later today once the sun is up and can get some back lighting across my frame.

Since I don't have customer quilt pix to share
here are two quilt projects I am working on...

This is Calypso Kaleidoscope, a 2015 BOM
where I went off track and coming up with my own blocks to finish this quilt
before the end of the year as scheduled :0) Pulled from batik stash.
Keeps me balanced working with batiks to Civil War...

Well, most of these are CW, there are a few Thimbleberries in there too.
They play nice :0)  All scraps from my Amaretto Cottage quilt.

The blocks above are from Lori's Mystery Country Road quilt along
post on her blog Humble Quilts. It's a reproduction of an old quilt she found...
here is a link to her post with pix of her finished top and the inspiration quilt
More about my projects on my quilt blog Ramblin' Rows

These two won't be finished in time for the show however,
there will be lots of quilts at the show coming up soon!

Lori's Flags of American Revolution

Buttons and binding
is what's next for this wonderful quilt
I had the best time quilting this quilt and it could not have been at a better time for me and the Fourth of July holiday coming up. Flag Day would have been appropriate as well, altho I got to enjoy Lori's quilt that day while finishing the quilting ;0) I loved working on this quilt!!! Each block is different and was quilted with a different design working with each of the applique motifs. Much thought went in to each block with the goal of adding texture with minimal, understated design. Love prim :0)

Quilted by Jo ~ Moonbear Designs

Batting is Quilter's Dream natural cotton Select.
I used Camel (good blender) and Dark Slate on the dark fabrics.

Thank you Lori!
Your applique is amazing!!!

This quilt is a QAL that Lori hosted in 2014 on her blog. This morning Lori posted pix on Humble Quilts as well. Thank you Lori and to everyone that commented on the quilting. Made my day and lifted my spirits, both the comments and the time spent quilting this quilt. A very good feeling as I work thru the grief with the recent loss of my Mom. Again, Lori, I can't thank you enough for trusting me with your quilt. Hugs, Jo

Graduation Quilts

The Sunbonnet Sue quilt that I was working on and finished last week...
On my frame where you can see some definition with the back light
Ribbon Candy is the design in the sashing
Daisies are added to Sue's hat and the cornerstones

with a Daisy border design

The backing is pieced by Melissa, the graduate
receiving this quilt. It's a group project, each block and blanket stitching done by different stitchers. The fabrics are all from Melissa's grandmother's 1930s stash of fabrics and Sunbonnet Sue was her favorite quilt. Lesa brought this project into my studio along with Debbie with a goal of having this finished to give to Melissa for graduation. Picked up a week ago, Lesa has the binding planned in the multi color solids used for the block frames. A special label is made by an artist for this project. Wish I could see the finished quilt!

It was the perfect quilt to work on while I was working thru the loss of my Mom. It got me going because of the deadline along with this quilt for Kelly, also a graduation quilt for a member in Kelly's family...
Great fabrics, of course  ;0)
with a Shabby Chic look backing Yes!
This is Jeweled Wanderer
Quilted with the design ~ Rapunzel by Anne Bright
It's a wonderful fun design with good coverage.
Thread is a Fantastico variegated blend of teal, grey and pink. LOVE!
with Omni Light Rose on the back, both threads from Superior.
Batting is Quilter's Dream Machine Blend

(NQR) Today was a better day for me, largely due to last night's guild meeting. Kelly had allot to do with that as well. I agonized about going, not sure how I would feel or react. We are not a society well equipped to deal with loss. People don't know what to say or say the cliche's that people say like "They are in a better place". I found myself saying that one, mostly because I want it to be true. We really don't know what happens. Is there an afterlife? Is it better?

First thing Pam B greeting me with a hug and then Joyce came up to me with the biggest hug and said... "There are no words" Perfect! Thank you! That broke the ice. Last night's meeting was our community service meeting. Being the guild's treasurer and Vendor Chair for our quilt show coming up I had business that needed to be attended to. Did that and checked in with Kelly, our VP standing in for our Pres who is out of town to let her know I was not staying and was not up to sewing. Kelly had a table set up for everyone that was not in a small group (that would be me too) and had a project planned. Nice! Thank you Kelly, now I am sorry that I didn't plan to stay! Everyone was gracious and wonderful.

Two customer quilts finished this week for Beckie and Judy P. Again... lots of pix to catch up on. The next 5 quilts are all custom which will give me a chance to catch up with posting pix. Next up is a quilt for Lori, it's up on my design wall right now while I get design ideas rolling around in my head before it's loaded...
This is Lori's Flags of the American Revolution quilt, a design by Jan Patek and a QAL Lori hosted on her blog Humble Quilts in 2014. So looking forward to quilting this beauty!

Have a wonderful weekend, take some stitches!

Two quilts this week

Customer quilts finished this week...
Linda E made this gorgeous quilt top! Love the sparkle of the little blue and white nine patches. Border is a Paisley print so we choose a Paisley panto to quilt this beauty.

And the backing with a close up of the quilting design...
I've been quilting for Linda a little over two years. It's nice to see first hand how she has gained confidence in her skills and has grown into a very talented quilter! Her piecing is perfect!
Thank you Linda!

This is a fun baby quilt for Judy P. First quilt done for Judy, a member of our guild, ASQG. We also share the same birthday and got to know each other a little better during the last quilt show. Judy makes soft sculpture and was a vendor at the quilt show with her beautiful dolls. Brandie, Jill and I purchased all of her mermaid dolls. All different and really cute! I'll take a pic today and post it later.

Quilted with a swirl design to go with the POW! Judy said it is for a "bruiser of a boy" and had a good laugh when she picked up this quilt yesterday. Thank you Judy!

With a late start this week which started out with a cold, only three quilts quilted this week. The third was a sample quilt for Theresa at Honey Run Quilters. Two more to be done and six that will be quilted on the new longarm in March. March, that does seem like a long time! Thank you Beckie, Barbara (each have two), Carole and Carol for putting your quilts on hold.

The list of quilts waiting for the Innova is growing and I may be in for a log jam. When I dropped off the quilted sample yesterday at Honey Run Quilters, Kelly told me she has three ready to be quilted!

On the home front, I finished my Mystery quilt top and am ready to start two projects this weekend. Barbara Brackman posted the first block for her 2014 BOM Threads of Memory and yesterday Lori of Humble Quilts posted the start of a QAL on her blog. For links head over to my blog Ramblin' Rows.
Disappointed at the end to last weekends game and the 49ers not making it into the Super Bowl. Happy to have a break from football until next weekend, I have blocks to make!
Enjoy your weekend! Thanks for stopping by

3rd week of July

My longarm quilting business is getting a great start!
Quilts completed this week...
This quilt top is made by my good friend Beckie. This is her Hawaiian quilt
All but one of the fabrics were purchased while she was visiting Hawaii.
She added the yellow batik in the center to complete her top.
Love her fabric choices and colors plus a wonderful block and pattern layout :0)
Beckie loves to use wool batting and I love the loft, it's fun to quilt on!
The quilting pattern is Tropical Garden by Designs by Deb. If you look real close you will see a Toucan bird! The flowers and leaves are perfect for the Hawaiian fabrics/theme.
I used Fantastico #5020, a variegated thread by Superior Threads.

These two quilts were finished for Sandra E...
both are quilts she made from a class with Goldie at Cathy's Sew and Vac/Honey Run Quilters.
This one is made with fabrics from Australia except the 'grout' fabric

Quilted with a design by Anne Bright ~ Sticky Buns
The swirl pattern in a cotton thread called Dogwood was understated and
added a nice texture to complement the fabric prints
and the second one made with batiks and black Kona for the grout
We chose a Dove pattern in black cotton thread.
This will be gifted to a church member, hence the stained glass and dove motifs

Annie's Star Quilt Guild is hosting an evening in September for local servicemen and women. We are busy making Quilts of Honor for the event. I donated my time and quilted two of them this week, this one also made by Sandy E, a guild member
Quilted with an edge to edge panto of Stars in white thread

This one was brought to me by Millie,
coordinator and volunteer for Community Service.
I quilted this one with a new panto I found at Sweet Dreams Quilt Studio,
designed by Kim Diamond. She sells a complete QOV bundle for $1.00! Sew nice!

Millie dropped off one more when she picked up this one on Friday.
Note: these quilts are all being made thru our Community Service program, each of us donate our time and materials. There are several longarm quilters participating along with home machine quilters, piecers and binders all working on these wonderful quilts! My friends and longarmers, Esther of Threads on the Floor and Gail are also working on a few.

Also worked on valances.

It's heating up outside this weekend. We picked veggies this morning from our garden. Now off to work on my quilt projects, Lori and Randy's Medallion quilt and Grandmother's Choice and make tomato sauce! Check back later this weekend at Ramblin' Rows to see my progress :0)
Enjoy the weekend and take time to put in a few stitches!
Thank you for visiting!

June Jelly Roll top is a finish!

Doreen's June Jelly Roll ~ My version of Willow Weave in Batiks...
... and just in time to finish Doreen's Sewalong while we are still IN June :0) Like Sue, am trying to decide if I want to add borders. I made one change to the original pattern and added a second basket weave band to the other end. I love Doreen's Basket Weave design. a great pattern for a Jelly Roll. Thank you Doreen! This was a fun quilt to make and a big change from repros! Doreen is planning a new Sewalong in August. Check back then at Aunt Reen's Place if you would like to join in!

It was the perfect weekend to stay in and quilt. It is sizzling HOT here in the North Valley! Also worked on my applique pieces for Lori and Randy's Medallion Sewalong.  A big THANK YOU to Randy for the lovely FQ from Life's A Stitch she sent! It was for tying with the most number of sewing machines. Thanks Randy!

Quilting for Claudia

Claudia is an excellent piecer. Following are two of her most recent...
Scrappy in Reds and Creams the blocks are nine patches with HST corners
 Claudia pieced the borders
 How about set on point?
We decided on a block quilting design. It was repeated in each block with the thread color matching. We added a second motif in the HST corners in red thread which does show on the cream and created an Irish Chain effect. I love this quilt, wouldn't it be wonderful in Repros!?!
The second quilt is modern, with greys and cream and we chose to do a straight line/squares quilting design that accent her piecing and fabrics.
Fabrics are all stripe and plaids and dots on the back...
Claudia pieces most of her backs and this one really adds to the quilt. She plans to add red binding.
Well done Claudia!

Wednesday, hump day already! and almost the first day of Summer. Were does the time go!!! Looking forward to the next part of Doreen's June Jelly Roll today. Check out her post... her Modern Day Jane is going to Show in the Vermont Quilt Festival's Celebrating Jane Stickle exhibit, curated by Brenda Papadakis. WOW!!! Congrats Doreen!

I am working on a quilt that was hand appliqued by Sally that will be donated to the guild. It's gorgeous and big, 98 x 98! We have a yard sale :0( aarg) planned for this weekend, I can work on my Medallion pieces then. Enjoy the day!
