Veteran's Day

Thank you to all of our Veterans, today and everyday.
Freedom is not free
Sharing some pix taken last week from Honor Flight Austin's Facebook page. In this group photo above is Michael's father, seated in the center front row. Thank you Daniel Stauffer, your family is very proud of you!. Dan is also a founding member of Georgetown's SAR, Sons of the American Revolution chapter. He loves genealogy and has been instrumental in helping members establish their link to a direct descendant of an American Revolutionary War soldier. Thank you Dan for all your service.

A few more pix and link from Honor Flight Austin's Facebook page

Great program! Pam B and Betty D shared that their father and FIL participated in Honor Flight programs in other cities. Wonderful! Love that quilts are supplied to keep these important veterans warm on a chilly day! Speaking of quilts, have to include one :0)
Quilt made by Sandy E for Quilts of Honor
Quilts of Honor, another great program
Quilts were made by many of our guild members for Quilts of Honor
and presented to veterans at a 2013 ASQG's meeting.
Link to my blog post about that moving evening...

Thank you for your service
That includes one of our guild members as well... Kaywood
was a nurse that served in a MASH unit in Vietnam.

Judy Johnson ~ ASQG 2015 show

Starting off with quilts made by Judith Johnson
Quilted at Moonbear Designs by Jo
Shown at Annie's Star Quilt Guild's Harvest of Quilts 2015 quilt show

Stars Float everywhere on the Quilt from A-Z
Second place, which is really good considering there were 21 quilts in this category,
one of which was juried (Grace's) into PIQF!

I had so much fun quilting this for Judy!
Each block is different, the design, piecing and the quilting, sew much fun!

Applique is done by machine with a button hole stitch by Judy

The trees, sheep and the borders were so much fun to quilt.
It was the first time that I did a background fill with McTavishing
in all of the borders on a customer's quilt.
Thank you Judy for letting me play on your quilts :0)

Viewing the Meadow From on High by Judy J
was just as much fun to quilt! This second quilt Judy exhibited
(not judged). Thank you Judy for your kind words :0)

The purple fabrics in the mountains are silk
See the bear walking along the forest?

I've quilted many quilts for Judy over the years, these two have been the most fun
by far! and we have more planned for the future. Thank you Judy.
You are an incredible quilter!

Best of Show ~ Barbara Michels

Best of Show went to Barbara Michels' quilt!
(Note: This Best of Show is only within the judged group of quilts,
not everyone submits quilts for judging.)
Barbara does her own quilting and quilts for others as well.
 Her work is amazing!!!

Of course, the machine quilting is always what I am drawn to first  :0)

This is another quilt made and quilted by Barbara that won a First Place ribbon
 in a different category...

I love the variety of stitches. The background pattern behind the large leaf is great. The block with the ginkgo leaves has pebbling that starts out small in the center and gets bigger as is works out to the edge of the block and in the second photo below...

love the way she worked the piano key border into the leaf edge!
Plus blocks with bugs added with stitching
Very creative!!!

There was one more whole cloth quilt quilted by Barbara that I am not finding on my photo card. Will have to check with Brandie to see if she got it. Here are two more quilts that were made by members of the guild that Barbara Michels quilted:

Hanging Garden ~ pieced by Ruth B
quilted by Barbara Michels
and this wonderful French Braid
made by Judy M
quilted by Barbara Michels
close up...
 Beautifully quilted!

There are lots more to post!
The plan is to post everyday over the next week or so, each day featuring one of my customer's quilts. Many have not been posted on the blog, waiting until after the show.

More best of...
These are the Viewer's choice awards, voted on by the attendees to the show.
This is Sally Jo's quilt, our applique extraordinaire!
that received 1st place for the Viewer's Choice Award
(note: Sally Jo chose not to enter this quilt into the judging
otherwise it would have more ribbons pinned to it!)

Beckie Canterbury's Birds is the 2nd Viewer's Choice

3rd Viewer's Choice went to a second quilt made by Sally Jo
but it was already taken down before I got a chance to take a photo.
It was cold, dark and raining by the time everyone was ready to call it a day :0(
Funny how much faster it comes down than up!

Last chance!

Today is the last day of Annie's Star Quilt Guild's quilt show! Don't let the weather keep you away!!! Once you get here, you won't even care what the weather is outside :0)

It is totally worth coming to see quilts, visit our 15 vendors, the guild's Boutique for new hand made items and Annie's Attic, Pick A Prize and a chance to win a tower of Fat Quarters at our Fat Quarter's booth. Lunch is available with great food and home made cookies from Roots our food vendor, a local caterer here in Chico!

Plus you still have the chance of winning our opportunity quilt pictured above! Drawing will be this afternoon so today is your last chance! Plus Char did a beautiful job of putting together baskets that you can win at Pick A Prize filled with great merchandise and items from local business and items donated by our vendors.

You can get a massage from Hannah Wilson, CMT one of our own guild members. String Bead is here selling gorgeous beads, one of many local Chico stores that is vending as well as Honey Run Quilters. Sew'n Wild Oaks is here with Lynn Wilder and her book and patterns plus lots more. Altho Lynn is now in Livermore, she used to live in Chico and we feel she is a Chico local ;0) Jeanie of The Silk Ear from Paradise has lots of vintage linens and embellishments.

Check out this great blog post by Lynn of her booth space Sew'n Wild Oaks, the before and after with all her wonderful quilt samples hung! What a transformation plus you can see all the eye candy! Link: Sew'n Wild Oaks

Two more local stores, A&J Vac and Sew has the new sit down from Juki that can be upgraded into a longarm frame! and Cathy's Sew and Vac has their Tiara, come and watch Lauren do magic on that sit down. Wooden Spools is here with a Handi Quilter to play on plus patterns, notions and more. Bradley Quilt Company is here with Jim's quilt frame that he designed plus lots of stencils for marking your quilts. Yes you can quilt your own quilts!!!

Lavender Rose Fabrics is here with bolts of fabric as well as Che Bella Batiks. Of course Honey Run Quilters has lots of fabric, kits, patterns and more. D's Quilting Designs has her fabulous patterns plus lots of notions. My friend Jill from Placerville of A Designing Woman has her booth set up with her gorgeous applique patterns all her own designs. I have seen many quilts made with her patterns that won ribbons in lots of shows. Wild Rose Designs from Red Bluff has great kits! We even have Second Hand Fabrics for the first time with a great booth where you can re love those fabrics or even find that one that you came up short and is no longer available!

You just have to come and see!!!
You will not be disappointed
It will be the perfect place to come
and spend the day.
Once you get here,
you won't even care what the weather is outside :0)

See you there! Jo

Frost Moon

November we move into late Fall
Time to prepare for Winter
Put the garden beds to rest
Store the outdoor items
Hopefully, the West coast actually has a Winter this season
with a snow pack! Altho, just rain would help

I am liking the time change :0)
