Quilts for Betty

Lately I am quilting faster than I am taking pix! Which is a good thing with PIQF and the holidays coming up in the all too near future :0) At the beginning of this month Betty brought in 4 quilts, all of which she has picked up. Love her work and especially love quilting for her, one of my favs :0)

This is the row print mixed in with other fabrics that Betty used to make this cutie

and the kangaroo quilting design that worked perfectly for this quilt!

LOVE my Innova!

Above is the backing, a pretty ribbed knit similar to Minkee... very soft and cuddly

and ever so stretchy!!! again, love my Innova!

A 2nd quilt Betty brought in was actually pieced by her small group part of our quilt guild.
It's a quilt top they started during our guild's community service night this summer.
(Just as many longarmer's do... my quilting time is donated to community service)

Also guild related... this was a guild's recent block of the month
Betty won all of these blocks made by guild members...

and now they are Bee Haven!
That's the design from Anne Bright I used to line up to each of the blocks
 to finish off this fun quilt

and last is a quilt Betty made... I believe the name is Maisie Daisy

Wedding quilt made by Betty

Love the fabric colors Betty pulled together for this Pineapple quilt. 

It's the second Pineapple I've quilted for her, the first was years ago on my 

previous longarm. We settled on a different quilting pattern

 for this one, Wild Swirls by Anne Bright.

It's a set including a border and corner design. 

I added a string of pearls in the inner border.

Quilted with Omni thread in a soft color called Buff,

it blended with the fabrics really well. 

Batting is Quilter's Dream Wool ~ love the loft!

Beautiful! and beautifully pieced!

This quilt made it's way to the happy couple in Betty's family.

Feathers for a Farmer's Wife and a Wedding quilt

Linda pieced her Farmer's Wife quilt with Civil War reproduction fabrics

(my favorite :0) 

 The center field is quilted with an edge to edge

lined up with the blocks Linda set on point. It worked really well!

 The design is from One Song Needle Arts

It was great to see how the quilting looked on each block

which, if you are not familiar with the pattern/book

each block in the quilt is different

A different e2e from One Song worked well for the borders

along with a block design for the corner

Linda hasn't seen it yet, for now I get to enjoy it for a little while longer!

Altho still working on a few quilts from January, I do have another large custom quilt finished for Betty that was scheduled for February. The date for a wedding was moved up so we did our best to finish this quilt in time for one of Betty's grands.

Also quilted with feather designs, Sacred Journey from One Song Needle Arts

Even the name of the design is perfect for a wedding quilt!

These were big blocks ~ 22"

I had to break up the designs as my quilting space maxes out at 21!

It worked out great :0)

Betty picked up this little quilt below when she dropped off the wedding quilt.

It's a quilt she made in a Joe Cunningham workshop hosted by our quilt guild.

Changes for the New Year

First, some catch up from the end of last year. This is an Asian inspired quilt made by Betty D. for a member of her family going off to college. Betty chose a beautiful panel that inspired the fabrics for the Disappearing Nine Patch blocks. Quilted with Woven Wind from Apricot Moon with a gold Glide thread to add to the gold accents of the Asian fabrics. 

Betty added some very nice accents with a tiny gold and black inset border with flange. Very well done! We were also happy with how the quilting played with the panel print. 

Backed with a soft gold flannel backing. Well done Betty, thank you!
Looking forward to the wedding quilt and the little quilt is quilted :0)

A baby quilt made by Linda E.

Love how Linda used French Braids for the borders. Made from scraps with allot of pinks, it is quilted with an Antique Rose Omni thread color. We settled on a fun idea for the quilting... Fireworks and it worked! IMHO. Linda will cut the corners with 45 degree angles before added the binding for a different shape too. Well done Linda! Thank you

I am currently working on another quilt for Linda. It's made with blocks from The Farmer's Wife book and it's gorgeous! Pix soon. A close up of Fireworks quilting design...

I am very happy with my customers, which brings me to the subject of changes and making a difficult decision. I am no longer taking new customers with the goal of scaling back the time I spend quilting for others. I have such a wonderful local client base, a second decision is not to take internet quilting orders. The website will remain intact for the purpose of information and inspiration for both clients as well as fellow bloggers.

There are plans to add tutorials to the website. My goal is to give tips to other longarmers and quilters. Resources and links. It's a great business to get into and I would love to see up and coming quilters make it a success!

 Looking forward to what the New Year brings and the path it takes.

The fifth quilt finished up this week is completely different

This is a vintage quilt made with 1930's prints

Real ones, not repros. 

I consider myself honored to see and work with a few vintage quilt tops. As much as I would love to see all hand pieced quilt tops hand quilted, it's not always affordable and maybe not every old quilt top should be rescued. This top was not in the best shape with many of the blocks falling apart that had been repaired by machine. Parts of the quilt were faded and the piecing was very puckered. Linda D brought this quilt in to be quilted. Rescued from a neighbor whose wife had passed away, Linda and I decided to use a wool batting for two reasons. It's a natural product and it would help fill in the puckered areas of the piecing. 

When Linda came in to pick up this quilt she brought me another top she finished. I can't wait to quilt it! Modern, we already settled on a great design from Digi-tech. Really nice quilt, very similar to Kelly's style. Love it! and so did Kelly! 

Rose, a customer brought an old quilt into my studio this afternoon. Made by a family member it had red and white nine patches alternating with white squares and it had a pink border and cornerstones. It was hand quilted with a cotton batting. The backing was made from some sort of feed bag or flour sack fabric. Well worn and loved, it was really special to see an old red and white quilt. (didn't think to take pix :0( it was a long day)

My quilting time is donated for as many Community Service quilts for the guild as I am able as well as Quilts of Honor and the quilt above that Cindy made will be donated to the Wounded Warriors project.

One more, also quilted for the guild is a small quilt

made in like fabrics as our Opportunity Quilt

Brandie organized this project, purchased the fabrics and worked with volunteers to piece and applique the blocks. This little guy will be given to the person who sells the most Opportunity Quilt tickets. Quilted on the Innova as close to the same quilting done on the big quilt, I made one change and used a wool batting along with a layer of cotton to add loft.

 Brandie did allot of the applique, love her fussy cutting!
The quilt is back in her hands for binding and will be presented to the guild soon :0)

Today is also the one year anniversary for Helena and I

The day my Innova arrived and was set up in my studio

It doesn't feel like a year, but it also feels like I've always quilted on this machine.
