Carol's Gravity

Wow, it's been over a month since I posted! Yikes 

Years ago my cousin told me that time goes by faster as one gets older. 

Never knew what she meant then... I sure get it now! 

Anyway a little catsup 

This is Gravity, a quilt by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts

Carol pieced her Gravity from gold, cream and white on white fabrics :0) 

Very different and I love it! 

Beginning of the stitch out

The inspiration design ~ Feather Diamond by Jessica Schick of Digi-Tech 

stitched out in the center star. 

and then framed by 2 different sets of designs by Nancy Haacke of Wasatch Quilting 

This quilt is larger than the pattern. Carol added to all four sides to make it fit a King size bed 

It took up most of my 12 foot frame with just enough room for the sew head :0) 

Quilted with Quilter's Dream Wool... love the loft! 

It adds so much texture to the white on white background fabrics :0) 

Fantastico Gold variegated thread in the center stars 

with Glide Cool Grey stitched on all of the white on white background. 

I was very glad that I made this quilt (neither of us knew the other was working on the same quilt pattern :0) because it made it easier to layout a design and keep track of the diamonds. 

Can't wait to quilt my own!!!

4 for Carol!

Carol is the queen of "Gwennie" style free form piecing! 

Quilted with Humming Birds 

using a blue variegated SoFine 40 thread by, of course, Superior  

All four of these quilts are made from scraps from Carol's mother. There are orphan blocks and cut off pieces from quilts Carol's mom made through out her life. Carol combines them with her mom's stash plus fabric from her own collection, many from Hawaii :0) She has been working on this for some time and I've had the pleasure of quilting several. If you click on Carol F from the Search by Customer box on my sidebar, all of the blog posts with quilts Carol made will come up :0) Her goal is to give each of these quilts to family members, very cool!!!

Each one is quilted with different threads, this one with a coral Omni 

quilted with Quilter's Dream Pink batting

 Love all the borders Carol added to this one!

  
and her backings are often pieced as well! 

This one has some of those Hawaiian fabrics.

A third... love how Carol changes up each of these quilts 

with all sorts of borer treatments and free form layouts!

This one backed with the same blue fabric as the first

And one more for four...

with similar fabrics as the first one with all pinwheel orphan blocks

btw all are quilted with the same Humming Bird design 

at Carols request because hummers were her mom's favorite bird :0)

Up early today, finished a quilt for Linda D, pix another day :0)

Stopped for breakfast and a blog break and now it's back to quilting 

before it gets too hot... again... 

we are going back into triple digits this week and next :0( 

That's Chico summers and THIS is the last summer I am quilting full time!

Two little quilts for Carol

Carol is a free form quilter using up stash! 

She picked up these two cute little guys 

Both are quilted with Quilter's Dream wool. 

The top below has a layer of cotton under the wool to keep the whites bright.

Quilted with Music Mania, a new design from Anne Bright 

using a SoFine40 variegated thread from Superior. 

Carol made this baby quilt for a friend that loves music :0)

Pieced backing with a touch of Hawaii!
This one is quilted with the new Omni V from Superior. Love!

There are 4 more quilts to go for this round. 

Many are made with fabrics that belonged to Carol's mom

with a goal of making quilts to share with family.

Quilting for Carol

Carol is busy using up her stash and scraps. She started last year.

Here are four that I've quilted for her so far this year, there are more in the works!

Starting off with this quilt, love the colors and prints!

Carol is really good at combining fabrics with a great sense of color. 

Check out the backing too!

How fun is that with all of the animal prints!?!

Quilted with humming birds and leaves 

to go with the theme of the prints 

 and for the recipient of this quilt who loves hummers :0)

Another, this one made with Hawaiian floral prints 

Carol brings back fabrics she finds in Hawaii!

Quilted with a floral design from Anne Bright called Jamaica.
Hibiscus would have been perfect as well except we did that on a quilt
Carol made last year with her Hawaiian prints. 

Below is a quilt Carol made in a Linda Ballard workshop at HRQ

Slice

Quilted with a design set from Intelligent Quilting called Sunflower Spiral. 

I centered the block design over the slices

 and then did something a little different in the borders, 

'slicing' off some of the design.

Notice that tiny thin inner border, beautiful! Great batiks too

plus one more this year that was quilted with a Pearl Feathers set

 from Anne Bright

 Great feather border design!

The pieced backing was just as much fun...

Here you can see the stop border that was added to the dark inner border

I am always amazed at the quilts that venture into my studio, and Linda's are no exception! This is a Mariner's Star quilt Linda made. Linda also made the Farmer's Wife quilt posted earlier this month. This is a better pic of the entire quilt...

With the change back to dry weather I had a chance to take some whole quilt pix outside. The Schedule is updated with a few more to finish for February, still happy with the progress made. There are several custom quilts in progress, one is Beckie's French Braid pictured in the previous post.

This is a quilt Linda made in a workshop with Kelly at Honey Run Quilters. Snack Time is the newest workshop with an encore on March 20th at HRQ. Will blog more details about these finished quilts next week. Meanwhile, taking the weekend off with plans to attend a quilt show in Auburn, CA today!
