Thread is Fantastico, a variegated thread from Superior Threads

Kathy W made this beauty...

Quilted with Curls and Swirls, a block design that can be set up at an e2e

and lined up with blocks of the quilt

creating a 'custom e2e' in the center field.

The borders are quilted with two border designs

The inner border is a swirl design by Jessica at Digi-tech

and the outer border is part of the Curls and Swirls set.

I didn't get a good pic of the outer border. Kathy drew lines for a 

scalloped border and the quilting design followed her lines. 

With winter and lots of rain, taking pix outdoors has not been an option :0(

This beauty definitely sets the mood for Autumn

with cool temps this week YEA!!!

and a little bit of moisture falling from the sky.

This change in the weather is good news and will help getting fires under control. Thoughts and prayers go out to many displaced families here in California effected by the worst fire season I've seen as a native Californian & survivor of three evacuations. Special prayers to those in Lake County with significant losses, including one life and many animals. Many many thanks to the women and men who put themselves in harms way in order to fight fires and help preserve as many homes as possible. Thank you and stay safe.
 

Saturday Morning Post ~ Kelly, Phoebe and Jill

This is Autumn Daze, a quilt made by Kelly for Honey Run Quilters that will be going to PIQF this October. Posted on a new Facebook page that is still in the works and now here on the blog. Kelly picked up this beauty on Thursday morning. 

Made good progress this month with one more quilt on my frame to finish out August. This will be the first month in about a year that there will not be any, not one! quilt on 'the list' carried over to the next month... Yea! It's a great feeling. 

Can't get too excited tho, the list is still booked until April of 2016 with September and October full to capacity with quilts that were 'put off' while I was taking care of my Mom. November is our guild's quilt show, lots of quilts to be finished for the show and quilts for the holidays. Busy, busy, busy! 

Ever so grateful for so many wonderful quilters 

that entrust their quilts to my care and quilting.

Nice! Glad to see Jill is back to quilting. Jill's home was flooded when we actually had one big rain storm last year that flooded Los Molinos. She lost allot of fabric along with a king size quilt she was working on. After a summer of repairs and replacements for their home, she is happily back at her machine! In fact, she took up half of February on the list!

Speaking of rain, we have a weird little storm moving thru early this morning with just a little bit of rain, yes, just enough to muddy up the dust on the cars! It's just getting light out and the ground is dry again already. The clouds are keeping the heat in so it's also warm and humid. Chico hit triple digits again this week, hopefully the last for the summer as this system promises to bring some cool temps. Looking forward to that and the coming of Autumn, my favorite season! Yea!!!

Graduation Quilts

The Sunbonnet Sue quilt that I was working on and finished last week...

Daisies are added to Sue's hat and the cornerstones

The backing is pieced by Melissa, the graduate

receiving this quilt. It's a group project, each block and blanket stitching done by different stitchers. The fabrics are all from Melissa's grandmother's 1930s stash of fabrics and Sunbonnet Sue was her favorite quilt. Lesa brought this project into my studio along with Debbie with a goal of having this finished to give to Melissa for graduation. Picked up a week ago, Lesa has the binding planned in the multi color solids used for the block frames. A special label is made by an artist for this project. Wish I could see the finished quilt!

It was the perfect quilt to work on while I was working thru the loss of my Mom. It got me going because of the deadline along with this quilt for Kelly, also a graduation quilt for a member in Kelly's family...

(NQR) Today was a better day for me, largely due to last night's guild meeting. Kelly had allot to do with that as well. I agonized about going, not sure how I would feel or react. We are not a society well equipped to deal with loss. People don't know what to say or say the cliche's that people say like "They are in a better place". I found myself saying that one, mostly because I want it to be true. We really don't know what happens. Is there an afterlife? Is it better? 

First thing Pam B greeting me with a hug and then Joyce came up to me with the biggest hug and said... "There are no words" Perfect! Thank you! That broke the ice. Last night's meeting was our community service meeting. Being the guild's treasurer and Vendor Chair for our quilt show coming up I had business that needed to be attended to. Did that and checked in with Kelly, our VP standing in for our Pres who is out of town to let her know I was not staying and was not up to sewing. Kelly had a table set up for everyone that was not in a small group (that would be me too) and had a project planned. Nice! Thank you Kelly, now I am sorry that I didn't plan to stay! Everyone was gracious and wonderful.

Two customer quilts finished this week for Beckie and Judy P. Again... lots of pix to catch up on. The next 5 quilts are all custom which will give me a chance to catch up with posting pix. Next up is a quilt for Lori, it's up on my design wall right now while I get design ideas rolling around in my head before it's loaded...

This is Lori's Flags of the American Revolution quilt, a design by Jan Patek and a QAL Lori hosted on her blog Humble Quilts in 2014. So looking forward to quilting this beauty!

Scrappy Kaffe!

Three quilts for Cheryl are quilted and ready for trimming. Cheryl loves Kaffe Fassett prints and has been using them for some time. She used lots of her scraps to make these guys... 

Wonderful way to make a scrappy Kaffe!

Quilted with a modern geometric design ~ Mid Century by Patricia Ritter. I followed the flow of the triangles to line up to the flow of the circles in the quilting. Lots of circles on the back too. Quilted with two Fantastico variegated threads (love!) Rainbow on the front and a pink to coral variegated on the back, with Quilter's Dream Blend batting.

The third is a great mix of color and fabrics. The deep gold, magenta and dark brown all played well together. I had the perfect Fantastico variegated magenta thread but opted for an Omni thread ~ Vanilla Wafer. There was so much print going on, a dark thread would have only gotten in the way! The gold thread was only quilted in the center field. In the dark brown border I used a light variegated thread, Lava, another thread from Superior. It's a thread they are discontinuing. It takes a larger needle for the 3 ply and a bit of fussing with the tension but it was well worth it! Love my Innova!

Quilting design in the center field is Quill b2b, also from Anne Bright

 and a border design ~ Quill with Flower that is part of a set 

(there are 4 different borders designed to frame her Quill b2b)

 The two fabric backing is folded against the front altho hard to see. 

There are allot of prints going on in this beauty!
