I am always amazed at the quilts that venture into my studio, and Linda's are no exception! This is a Mariner's Star quilt Linda made. Linda also made the Farmer's Wife quilt posted earlier this month. This is a better pic of the entire quilt...

With the change back to dry weather I had a chance to take some whole quilt pix outside. The Schedule is updated with a few more to finish for February, still happy with the progress made. There are several custom quilts in progress, one is Beckie's French Braid pictured in the previous post.

This is a quilt Linda made in a workshop with Kelly at Honey Run Quilters. Snack Time is the newest workshop with an encore on March 20th at HRQ. Will blog more details about these finished quilts next week. Meanwhile, taking the weekend off with plans to attend a quilt show in Auburn, CA today! Feathers for a Farmer's Wife and a Wedding quilt

Linda pieced her Farmer's Wife quilt with Civil War reproduction fabrics

(my favorite :0) 

 The center field is quilted with an edge to edge

lined up with the blocks Linda set on point. It worked really well!

 The design is from One Song Needle Arts

It was great to see how the quilting looked on each block

which, if you are not familiar with the pattern/book

each block in the quilt is different

A different e2e from One Song worked well for the borders

along with a block design for the corner

Linda hasn't seen it yet, for now I get to enjoy it for a little while longer!

Altho still working on a few quilts from January, I do have another large custom quilt finished for Betty that was scheduled for February. The date for a wedding was moved up so we did our best to finish this quilt in time for one of Betty's grands.

Also quilted with feather designs, Sacred Journey from One Song Needle Arts

Even the name of the design is perfect for a wedding quilt!

These were big blocks ~ 22"

I had to break up the designs as my quilting space maxes out at 21!

It worked out great :0)

Betty picked up this little quilt below when she dropped off the wedding quilt.

It's a quilt she made in a Joe Cunningham workshop hosted by our quilt guild.

Changes for the New Year

First, some catch up from the end of last year. This is an Asian inspired quilt made by Betty D. for a member of her family going off to college. Betty chose a beautiful panel that inspired the fabrics for the Disappearing Nine Patch blocks. Quilted with Woven Wind from Apricot Moon with a gold Glide thread to add to the gold accents of the Asian fabrics. 

Betty added some very nice accents with a tiny gold and black inset border with flange. Very well done! We were also happy with how the quilting played with the panel print. 

Backed with a soft gold flannel backing. Well done Betty, thank you!
Looking forward to the wedding quilt and the little quilt is quilted :0)

A baby quilt made by Linda E.

Love how Linda used French Braids for the borders. Made from scraps with allot of pinks, it is quilted with an Antique Rose Omni thread color. We settled on a fun idea for the quilting... Fireworks and it worked! IMHO. Linda will cut the corners with 45 degree angles before added the binding for a different shape too. Well done Linda! Thank you

I am currently working on another quilt for Linda. It's made with blocks from The Farmer's Wife book and it's gorgeous! Pix soon. A close up of Fireworks quilting design...

I am very happy with my customers, which brings me to the subject of changes and making a difficult decision. I am no longer taking new customers with the goal of scaling back the time I spend quilting for others. I have such a wonderful local client base, a second decision is not to take internet quilting orders. The website will remain intact for the purpose of information and inspiration for both clients as well as fellow bloggers.

There are plans to add tutorials to the website. My goal is to give tips to other longarmers and quilters. Resources and links. It's a great business to get into and I would love to see up and coming quilters make it a success!

 Looking forward to what the New Year brings and the path it takes.

A Dresden Plate quilt made by Linda E

with perfect hand stitched blanket stitches!

A feather motif from One Song Needle Arts 

is centered on the sashing cornerstones

 and quilted between the plates

with a feather butterfly border design

quilted between the half plates and the corners in the inner border.

The remainder of the quilting is outline and SID on the Dresden Plates.

Linda added an outer border pieced from the scraps
of this scrappy quilt :0)

First quilting finished for 2015

First quilt in 2015 is quilted for Leslie

A beauty! 15 inch blocks set on point. Wonderful fabrics!

A paisley print is the medium with a dark silk cornerstone in the sashing.

The background fabric is all scrappy, love it!

Even the inner border is all scrappy pieces of background fabrics!

Borders, corners, 2 triangles and the blocks are a set design by 

Apricot Moon called Charlotte. 

finished with SID borders and 1/4 inch straight stitch in the sashing

More contemporary than my usual feather motifs.

It worked well with Leslie's fabric choices.

 This is a quilt made by Cindy with a Linda Ballard block design

Quilted with an e2e ~ Starburst using a Signature cotton in the color Wheat

 Great fabrics and colors, set on point blocks! Good job Cindy!!!

and a quilt Cindy and Tess are known for using

The 10 minute quilt pattern...

 Completely made of squares with one folded into the seams
and pressed down for folded edges

 to form the center square on point

 Definitely a challenge to quilt down the free floating folded edges!

Not something I could do on my previous SOB (some other brand) longarm

However, on my Innova... No problem! 

Quilted with a Geometric e2e

and the bright and cheery backing Cindy chose for this quilt. Perfect!

A baby quilt made with flannels...

for a baby boy. We thought the Friendship Stars and Pinwheels
could be propellers

so it is quilted with the Airplane e2e

because it needed those propellers!

A couple of Finishes

The stars on Linda E's quilt shine!!! 

Perfect piecing in great batiks, 

dark to light neutrals with a splash of deep red and purple

Quilted and on my worktable. Still raining so no outdoor full view pix :0(

Linda's quilt has a great layout. It is 87 x 87 square.

What you can see on the table is a mirror image of the other side

The backing. Top and bottom thread is Glide in Viking, a medium purple

The same thread quilted on Pam's Swoon, different look but just as effective!

Quilted with a Swirl and Feather block design repeated

creating a secondary design at the intersections of the blocks

Love Linda's pops of red and purple and gold

These two went home with Cindy after our guild meeting last night.

Challenge quilts displayed at our December meeting

Cindy's is the arm chair with the Golden Book

in the upper right corner

The theme was reading and Cindy's is great!

One more quilt for Cindy G quilted on my Innova
 last week, this beauty is all batiks including the back

 With allot of ocean and water inspired prints 

Cindy choose Under the Deep Blue Sea e2e by Sweet Dreams Studio

 The movement of the pattern with swirls and pearls

just works really well with batiks

Thread used is a lime green variegated thread, Fantastico by Superior

Love this thread as well as Cindy's quilt and choices! Well done :0)

One more done previously. It's been in the hands of Goldie for binding

and is now back in my studio ready for it's maker, Faye

 Goldie did a beautiful job of binding!

As discussed with Faye, I kept the quilting very simple. Faye requested a 1/4 inch stitch which is perfect for this era of quilt style and the fabrics. Her Baseball blocks, she calls them, also known as Apple Core, are all hand pieced by Faye since she was a young girl. She kept adding to it over the years and is now (I believe) in her 80s. Her daughter drove her to meet with me and recognized many of the fabrics from dresses Faye made for her as a child. So these fabrics are the real deal, no repros! Here are some close ups of a few...

We are getting more rain! All good but a little break would be OK too! 

Our parched soils are starting to slide and all of the leaves are wet and gooey
